Artist Statement

I’ve been developing a children’s book called “Boy in the Brambles.” I am the illustrator while my grandmother, Michele Cox, is the writer. The story follows a carefree boy and his dog who venture out into the woods. They get caught in a storm and just when it seems like all hope is lost, the boy suddenly wakes up in his bed with his dog. He ponders whether what happened was a dream or not and then embraces his dog, happy that it was all behind him.
As an artist, my main interest is in storytelling through illustration. As a child, I was always inspired by shows like Dragon Ball z, Naruto, Ben 10, and Kids Next Door, and video games like Pokémon, Mario, and later Dark Souls. Now, as an illustrator, whether it be a novel in need of illustrations or commissions of various subjects, I apply my abilities and passion for telling stories through art.
“Boy in the Brambles” started as a passion project, but I soon realized it was an opportunity to launch my art career. I always thought of being a professional artist as a far off goal, but as I near the end of my college education that goal will be closer than ever, and this project will help make it a reality. “Boy in the Brambles,” when it is a completed book, will have 24 pages and 14 illustrations including the cover. The illustrations were made digitally using a program called Krita. The book will be privately published in the near future, with future plans to seek a professional publisher.
